NBE began by supporting the electronics industry through component supply. In 2020, we expanded that role with a clear vision: to help customers transform components and ideas into useful, connected and deployable systems.

WHY NBE HAS DESIGN CAPABILITY

Supporting Customers Beyond Components

Many people know NBE as a trusted electronic component supplier. Through years of working closely with customers, we gained exposure to a wide range of applications and technical challenges across different industries.

In 2020, NBE expanded its support capability by establishing an electronics and IoT engineering function. This complemented our existing component business by allowing us to assist customers in areas such as electronics design, embedded firmware, sensing technologies and connected systems when project requirements called for additional engineering support.

Today, NBE continues to support customers through both component supply and practical engineering solutions across a variety of industries.

Our engineering capability grew progressively through technical exploration, customer projects, proof-of-concept development and real-world deployment.

Before 2020

Foundation in Electronics

NBE built strong relationships within the electronics industry through component supply and customer support, gaining practical knowledge of sourcing, cost, manufacturability and application requirements.

2020

Engineering Exploration

NBE established an electronics and IoT engineering function and began exploring a variety of sensing, embedded firmware, connectivity and automation projects.

2021

First Public-Sector Proof of Concept

We developed a proof-of-concept smart waste collection machine for a town council, providing early experience in translating an operational requirement into a working customised system.

2022–2023

Smart-City Energy Monitoring

NBE was awarded a project to design and build an energy-monitoring device for the HDB smart-city initiative. Following development and validation, production began in 2023.

2024

From Device to Complete Platform

We expanded beyond measurement hardware by developing our own energy dashboards, mobile applications and data platforms, with support for both cloud-hosted and local-server deployment.

2025

Factory Performance Monitoring

We developed a production yield counter to help factories monitor output, identify downtime and improve machine utilisation and operational visibility.

2026

Energy Intelligence and Control

Our work expanded into occupancy sensing and automated appliance control, together with an energy evaluation platform supporting harmonics analysis and NILM-based appliance differentiation.

We began with measurement. We then learned how to retain, display and analyse the data. Today, we are extending that intelligence into control—so a system can not only report energy waste or abnormal behaviour, but also help prevent it.

This creates a more complete solution for customers: accurate sensing, clear visibility, earlier warning, deeper analytics and practical actions that improve efficiency.

Our Direction

Continue developing energy intelligence, preventive maintenance, local decision-making, NILM and smart control solutions that can work across buildings, factories and remote assets.

Remain flexible enough to support different customer platforms, deployment sizes and operating environments.
